At thirty, Pomme releases la forteresse, her fifth album and the first she has directed entirely on her own artistically. Born in part from the filming of Peau d’homme, in which she portrayed Blanche, the record took shape between tours, Kyoto, Aaron Dessner’s studio, and the Château de la Haute-Borde. Across four chapters, it follows a fictional creature who chooses to leave the fortress where she has been confined for centuries, a metaphor for fear, wounds, and self-liberation. Drawing inspiration from medieval imagery and the worlds of Miyazaki, as well as from artists like Björk and Kate Bush, Pomme blends stripped-back folk with more ambitious arrangements. Recorded live off the floor at Studios de la Fabrique, the album explores identity, solitude, love, burnout, eco-anxiety, and the transition into one’s thirties with remarkable sensitivity.
