More than 45 years into their career and with ten albums to their name, Grammy‑winning Tuareg pioneers Tinariwen return to their roots. Champions of nomadic Tuareg culture from the Mali–Algeria desert borderlands, the band has gained global acclaim for their blues‑infused guitar sound, political Tamasheq lyrics, and hypnotic rhythms. On their tenth album Hoggar, Tinariwen embrace their role as elders, revisiting the acoustic, communal spirit of their early songs while spotlighting a new generation of Tuareg musicians to carry the flame forward. Forced to adapt amid political unrest in Mali, founding members relocated to Algeria, recording the album in Tamanrasset at a studio run by younger band Imarhan. Hoggar captures both resilience and transmission, honoring tradition while ensuring its future.
