Over the past year and a half, DVTR has been shaking up the Canadian punk scene, racking up dazzling reviews, best of 2023 lists, sold out shows and some bootlicking awards for their first ever EP “BONJOUR” (Hello!). Somewhere between the B-52’s and Jay Reatard, the troublemaking French-speaking duo and its unpredictable antics breaks all language barriers, on stages everywhere from Mexico to Japan. This is fast music: short and not sweet at all: it repeats, it repeats, it repeats – that’s the only way to get the message across. Not for the faint of heart.
Chou – Opening act
Like the vegetable, or like a booing crowd? A bit of both.
Chou is a cruciferous quartet rooted in the fertile soil of Hochelaga, growing wildly sideways—a broad-leaf punk nourished by sharp humor, cheeky riffs, and unpasteurized amp juice. Cultivated by head gardeners Charles Laplante and Bruno Bouchard, later joined by the fierce brute-fairy Bichou (Gabrielle Oltra) and the thunderous bass-condiment Patch (Patrick Chagnon), the band makes stages erupt with songs that ferment long before the first bite.
Two albums, one EP of covers, and still not wilted: Chou is loud, abrasive, and ready to kick your garden in.
